FACE TO FACE: Confronting Torture in the 21st Century

Three Days to Inspire
and Strengthen Your Activism

Join members from across the United States and around the world for Amnesty International USA's Annual General Meeting (AGM). This year's meeting, held in Nashville, Tennessee, April 20-22, 2001, promises to attract hundreds of members and other human rights activists from across the country and around the world. Oscar Arias Sanchez, Former President of Costa Rica and 1987 Nobel Peace Laureate, will be welcoming keynote speaker on the opening day of the conference.

Educate, Motivate, Empower
In conjunction with Amnesty's world-wide campaign to stop torture, the focus of this year's AGM is "Face To Face: Confronting Torture in the 21st Century." The conference will offer a full range of educational and motivational programs focused on this complex issue. Panelists and featured speakers will help us better understand both the practice and prevalence of torture and develop strategies to stop its use.

"It is not the evidence of injustice that is lacking; it is the courage to believe in and act upon this evidence to help these victims that is missing. We can truly help. Silence in the face of injustice is complicity with the oppressor. "
