2025 Calendar Artwork Contest - Rules

The Amnesty International USA 2025 Calendar Contest (“the Contest”) begins on February 7, 2024 at 12:00 am Eastern Time and all entries must be submitted by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on March 11, 2024.  

No purchase, payment or entry fee is necessary to enter or to win. A purchase will not improve your chances of winning. This contest is subject to all federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations and is void where prohibited. Entry into the Contest constitutes your acceptance of these Official Rules. 

By entering the Contest, you agree to Sponsor’s and its licensees’ use of your name, likeness, and biographical information in any media for any commercial, advertising or trade purpose without limitation or further compensation, unless prohibited by law. By entering the Contest, you further agree to release and hold harmless Sponsor and its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, and promotional agencies, and all of their respective directors, officers, employees, members, volunteers and agents, from any and all liability, claims, injuries, losses or damages of any kind arising from or in connection with your participation in the Contest. Sponsor, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to suspend, modify or terminate this Contest if it determines in its sole discretion that tampering, fraud, or any other cause beyond the reasonable control of Sponsor has corrupted, compromised or impaired the security, integrity, fairness or proper operation of the Contest. All personal information received through your entry into this contest will be governed by Sponsor’s privacy policy

This Contest is void where prohibited by law. Contest is governed by U.S. law and subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Eligibility 

The Contest is open to all residents of the United States. Employees of Amnesty International and any of its divisions, affiliates, subsidiaries, or advertising or promotional agencies, and the immediate family members of, and any persons domiciled with, such employees are not eligible to enter or to win. The term “immediate family members” includes spouses, parents, grandparents, siblings, children, and grandchildren. 

Entrants under the age of 18 years old must have permission from a parent or guardian to enter the Contest. 

Entry Terms and Conditions 

The aim of the Contest is to obtain original photography or artwork related to the theme of human rights to be published in Amnesty International USA’s 2025 calendar. There is no fee to enter. Each individual entrant may submit up to three (3) images. Each entry requires completion of a separate entry form.  

Entries must meet all requirements below. Entries that fail to meet these criteria may be immediately disqualified. 

Each image submitted to the Contest must be the original work of the entrant. The entrant must be the sole owner of all rights in or otherwise have the right to license the image to Amnesty International USA for reproduction and use in fundraising and marketing materials. 

Each submitted image must: 

  • Have a resolution of at least 300 dpi 
  • Have a width of at least 13 inches and height of at least 8 inches 
  • Be submitted in either CMYK or RGB format; and 
  • Be submitted as TIFF or JPG format 
  • Be free of any religious symbols, corporate brands and country or regional flags
  • For each entry, the entrant must provide a brief description of the work. 

Entries can be submitted online via the online entry form by 11:59 pm on March 11, 2024 or by mail, postmarked by March 11, 2024, at:

Mailed entries will not be returned to the entrant. Sponsor is not responsible for incomplete, illegible, unviewable, lost, or late entries, all of which will be disqualified. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entries by persons determined by the Sponsor, in its sole discretion, to be tampering with or abusing any aspect of the Contest. Sponsor further reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is alleged to infringe on any third-party’s intellectual property or other rights, or that the Sponsor deems to be, in its sole discretion, obscene, offensive, unethical, or otherwise inappropriate.  

By entering the Contest, each entrant agrees that the Sponsor and its licensees may publish their entries in the Amnesty International USA 2025 Annual Calendar and exhibit, copy, publish and make derivative works from or otherwise use entry materials for any purpose, in any media, in perpetuity, without limitation or additional permission or compensation, except where prohibited by law. Each entrant also agrees that the Sponsor may crop, resize, or otherwise alter their entries for use in publication at the Sponsor’s discretion. 

To the fullest extent permitted by law each entrant shall indemnify, defend and hold harmless the Sponsor and its agents and employees from and against any claims, damages, losses and expenses, including but not limited to attorneys’ fees, arising out of or resulting from the publication of artwork submitted by that entrant. 

Judging 

The Sponsor will select thirteen (13) semi-finalist entries from all entries submitted. Amnesty International USA members will select, by number of online votes, one (1) grand prize winner and two (2) runners-up from the pool of semi-finalists. 

Online voting will open by 12:00 am Eastern Time on March 23, 2024 and close at 11:59 pm March 31, 2024. Each voter must be an active or dues-waived member of Amnesty International USA as of March 15, 2024 and may vote up to one (1) time.  

Winners will be notified by email or phone. Sponsor’s inability to contact a winner may result in that winner’s disqualification and the selection of a substitute winner from among all remaining eligible entries. 

Prizes  

Winners will not receive any cash prize.  

Each entrant whose entry is selected as a semi-finalist will receive three (3) copies of Amnesty International USA’s 2025 calendar. 

Each of the top three (3) winners, by online vote of Amnesty International USA members, will receive an Amnesty activism pack and an Amnesty t-shirt. 

One (1) second place winner, will have their entry used as the inside cover of Amnesty International USA’s 2025 calendar. 

One (1) grand prize winner will have their entry used as the outside cover of Amnesty International USA’s 2025 calendar and will receive free registration for Amnesty International USA’s 2025 Annual General Meeting. 

While entrants can submit multiple entries, no single entrant can win multiple prizes. 

Prize Conditions 

All expenses related to the acceptance or use of any Prize is the sole responsibility of the Prize winner. 

Prizes are not redeemable for cash and may not be substituted except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value at its discretion.  

Limitations of Liability 

By entering the Contest, entrants agree to release Sponsor and its employees, agents, affiliated companies, and advertising agencies (“Released Entities”) from any and all liability arising from: (1) any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by writer, printing, typographical or other errors or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest; (2) technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (3) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the Contest; (4) printing, typographical, technical, computer, network or human error which may occur in the administration of the Contest, the announcement in any Contest-related materials; (5) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrants’ participation in the Contest.; or (6) any  third-party claims of intellectual property infringement. Entrants further agree to release Released Entities from any and all liability arising from malfunctions of computer systems, servers, providers, hardware/software, lost or unavailable network connections or failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmission or any combination thereof.
