Amnesty International can reveal new evidence pointing to a mass-scale scorched-earth campaign across northern Rakhine State, where Myanmar security forces and vigilante mobs are burning down entire Rohingya villages and shooting people at random as they try to flee.

Amnesty International USA Elects Aniket Shah Board Chair, Fills Other Leadership Posts

Amnesty International USA announced today that Aniket Shah has been elected Chair of its Board of Directors. Shah has been a leader in the organization for more than 15 years, first as a student activist and most recently as the Board Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee. Shah is a leading authority on global sustainable development, working in leadership positions with the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network, Investec Asset Management, and previously with the Earth Institute.

Amnesty International USA Responds to Trump Plan to Drastically Decrease Refugee Admissions

Responding to reports that the White House may drastically reduce the number of refugees admitted to the United States to 40,000 next year, Amnesty International USA is calling on the administration to set the annual refugee cap at 75,000. The U.S. refugee program has long enjoyed bipartisan support, Amnesty also noted, with former President George H.W. Bush admitting more than 100,000 refugees during every year of his presidency.

Amnesty International USA activists speak out against a ban and a wall against people
AIUSA Executive Director Margaret and AI Secretary General Salil Shetty delivered a letter to the Department of Homeland Security Secretary, outlining numerous personal stories of people who are affected by the Muslim ban, asking DHS to release full information about how the ban has been implemented, and demanding that DHS help roll back the ban. As a part of the protests outside, we projected “No Ban, No Wall” on the building along with photos of refugees in Lebanon and Kenya provided by Magnum Photography.
