On Wednesday, President Obama announced that he strongly supports declassification and public release of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report on CIA torture since 9/11.

This is a huge step forward in our effort to release the report! Release of this report will help us ensure that the CIA never uses torture again.

Amnesty International USA welcomed the news:

“This announcement is a huge step toward greater transparency. The whole report should indeed be declassified, not just bits and pieces. Senator Feinstein should move forward with a Committee vote on declassification as soon as possible.

But truly preventing torture requires another step. President Obama should move to declassify the CIA’s rendition, detention and interrogation program itself. A real commitment to transparency and preventing torture in the future requires nothing less.”
